Daniel Spurlock’s passion for cooking led him to Vail, Co in 2000 to enroll in the Culinary School at Colorado Mountain College and Vail Resort. There he was personally trained by a number of highly regarded chefs while working in some of Colorado’s top restaurants and hotels. In 2003, while still a student, he was promoted to Sous Chef of The Wildflower Restaurant, the flagship restaurant of The Lodge at Vail. He graduated from the culinary school a few months later.
In 2004 he took over as Chef de Cuisine of The Wildflower Restaurant. During his tenure there Chef Spurlock and his team achieved Mobil’s “Four Star” rating for the restaurant.
In 2006 Chef Spurlock became Executive Chef at SaddleRidge Restaurant in Beaver Creek, CO. In three years there he doubled the restaurant’s revenue and also made the restaurant a top pick for weddings and special events.
In 2009 Chef Spurlock and family moved to the East Coast, taking a position at Chatham Bars Inn as Chef de Cuisine of The Main Dining Room. There he focused on farm & sea to table fine dining as well as overseeing The Sacred Cod Tavern which focused on New England classic fare. Chatham Bars Inn in Cape Cod, Massachusetts is rated as one of the top resorts in the world.
2012 – Present Chef Spurlock is the Executive Chef at The Chatham Wayside Inn which is located on Main St. in the heart of Chatham, MA. The Wild Goose Tavern is a fast-paced restaurant with something for everyone focusing on coastal, regional and seasonal cuisine.
Chef Spurlock’s career has spanned a wide variety of venues and cuisine while serving a wide variety of clientele, from casual diners to gourmands to two sitting Vice Presidents of the United States.
Chef Dan’s approach to cooking begins with respect. Not only for the product that he chooses for his menus, but the farmers/foragers/fisherman that he buys from and everyone on his team, no matter their position. He leads by example, setting a positive, fun and creative working environment while remaining focused on quality, consistency and cleanliness. Dan truly loves creating great tasting food and teaching others to do the same.
